HOW TO SETUP A REPEATER

Setting up the Repeater

Assumptions: Primary Router: Belkin and Repeater: Primatel (Airtel)
1. Connect Laptop/Desktop to Belkin
2. Open the Belkin page (192.168.2.1)
3. Make a note of IP, Subnet Mask and Default Gateway of Belkin.
a. IP: 192.168.2.1
b. SM: 255.255.255.0
c. DG: Not given
4. Also make sure the security setting of Belkin is set as below:
a. Go to Wireless >> Channel and SSID
b. Wireless mode should be set to 802.11b&802.11g&802.11n
c. Bandwidth to 20/40MHz
d. Now go to Security page under wireless and Set the security mode to “WPA-Personal ( PSK )”
e. Authentication to be selected as “WPA2-PSK” (this is for repeater set-up)
5. Disconnect Laptop from Belkin and Connect to Primatel (Airtel router) by LAN Cable
6. Open the Primatel page (192.168.0.1 which is default page after reset)
7. Login by using username and password as admin
8. Go to Quick Setup
9. Select AP-Repeater
10. Select Universal Repeater and give the “SSID of Root-AP” as Belkin SSID and the “BSSID of Root-AP” to be selected by using the search and connect option. This should be of Belkin as well. This means the Primary and Repeater SSID will be same.
11. Select the key as “WPA-PSK/WPA2-PSK”
12. Give the password which should be same as Belkin password.
13. Save and it will ask to reboot the router, DO NOT REBOOT
14. Go to Network and click on LAN
15. Make the following change into the page:
a. IP: 192.168.2.254
b. SM: 255.255.255.0
c. DG: 192.168.2.1 (IP of Belkin to be the DG of repeater)
16. Click save and this will ask to re-boot again
17. Go and re-boot the router.
18. Also disable the DNS of repeater and then re-boot again
19. Once the repeater is up, we need to make sure that it is working fine. To validate if the repeater is set-up or not, disconnect the LAN and open the repeater page (now it should be 192.168.2.254) and Belkin page (192.168.2.1) in 2 different window. Both should come up, which means it is working as expected.
